9/6/16 - Gateway Dirt Nationals Names Lead Officials

Matt Curl and Kelley Carlton join the team for Historic indoor dirt racing event

ST. Louis, Mo. - The VP Racing Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals today announced that veteran race officials Matt Curl and Kelley Carlton would join the team to perform race direction duties for the Modifieds and Late Models respectively. Both gentlemen bring a wealth of experience in racing and together they will establish the team for competition management for the December 15th-17th indoor spectacle in downtown St. Louis, MO at the Dome at America's Center.

"I am very excited to have Kelley and Matt on the team. They both have a lot that they bring to the table and the idea is to work together as a collaborative team, yet have focused and individual direction for each division of racing." said Cody Sommer, Founder and promoter of the VP Racing Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals.

Sommer had sought to establish a group that could work together seamlessly while still offering both the Modifieds and Late Models a recognizable individual that could offer the time and specific focus for each division. "The 150 Super Late Model teams deserve to have individual focus just like the 250 Open Wheel Modified teams deserve to have an individual focus, so having two directors like Kelley and Matt will be great for the competitors to have a GO-TO director at the event"

Matt Curl is the Superintendent of Indian Creek Golf and Country Club by day and acts as the race director at the wildly popular Fairbury American Legion Speedway. Curl has been involved with racing his entire life but has spent the last 25 years as a race official. "I can't thank Cody enough for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this historic event. Since the announcement of the Gateway Dirt Nationals, there has been a huge buzz in the air in the racing world and this will be one weekend you won't want to miss. I'm excited to be working alongside Kelley and our race teams throughout the week to make the event a huge success." said Curl

Kelley Carlton is the director of the Ultimate Super Late Model Series and also owns and operates a motorsports management and public relations company. Carlton is a lifelong racer who has spent over 25 years as a racing official. "I appreciate Cody wanting me to be involved with this event. When they announced the plans for this race I knew that the Gateway Dirt Nationals would be a significant event in dirt racing's history. Only once previously has a Late Model event taken place indoors and that race at Detroit's Silverdome is a part of the lexicon of Dirt Late Model racing. I am looking forward to working with the teams and with Matt to make sure the event goes smoothly and the fans get a great show." said Carlton.
