Chris
Ferguson Headed to Eldora Speedway for The Dream
MT.
Holly,
NC – Teen dirt late model sensation Chris Ferguson and
team are headed for what has become the “Holy Grail” of dirt
late model racing – the Eldora Speedway. The team will attempt
to make its first event ever at Eldora in the 15th
Annual Dirt Late Model Dream. The “crown jewel” event pays a
whooping $100,000 to win and will likely draw upwards of 150
drivers from all over the United States and Canada. “You hear
all of the stories about Eldora and all the greats that have won
a race there. The place has so much history and prestige. We
want to go up there and have a good showing. I would love to win
the race but if we can just make the show that would almost be
like a win for us.” Ferguson allowed.
“We
have struggled the last couple of races but we think we have
found the problem. We spent the last several days going through
the car and doing maintenance on everything and making sure we
are ready. My dad and all the guys have really worked extra hard
to get ready to go. We are all excited about this trip. We are
leaving out on Tuesday night so we can catch the Prelude on
Wednesday night. I can’t wait to get up there and give it a
shot. It will be neat just to make laps around that place. But
don’t get me wrong, we are going there with our game faces on
and we are planning on making the show and being competitive. I
don’t think anybody would go without believing they have a
shot at winning. In this sport you just need some luck and for
all the pieces to fall into place.” Ferguson added.
The
Dream 100 is the highest paying dirt late model event in the
world. In its fifteenth year, the Dream has a fairly short
winners list. Scott Bloomquist leads all drivers with five wins
and is the defending race winner. North Carolina native Freddy
Smith has also won the Dream twice in his illustrious career.
Other previous winners include Billy Moyer, Donnie Moran, Rick
Eckert, Jimmy Mars, Matt Miller and Steve Casebolt. “You know
you just look at what Casebolt did that year. That gives you
hope for sure. His team was a lot like ours and he went up there
and won that deal a couple of years ago. So it can be done.”
Ferguson asserted. The one thing on everyone who enters this
weekend’s event, including Ferguson has to be – Who can out
run the red hot Brian Birkhofer who has won the last three big
money events in the nation. “He will certainly be the one
everybody will have to expect to beat.” says Ferguson.
